32 years ago, writers Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis created Ghostbusters, a supernatural comedy about four guys who start a business catching ghosts all across New York City. The film quickly became a staple in comedy history. Now, after getting a third film off the ground didn't work, Sony Pictures and producer Ivan Reitman decided to go back to square one in their attempt to keep the Ghostbusters franchise going. Director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat, and Spy) brings his fresh take on the classic, this time starring a cast of women. In this new version, Erin Gilbert, a professor at Columbia University, finds her perfect life ruined by the return of her ex-colleauge, Abby Yates. When they discover that ghosts actually exist, they decide to break away from their university studies to form a business studying the paranormal. With the help of nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, and subway worker Patty Tolan, they all work together to save the city from a supernatural catastrophe. So, does this female-led reboot stand against the massive, Internet backlash?
What I liked about it:
- Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones have an amazing chemistry together on screen.
- The humor was spot on. This is the funniest movie I have seen this year.
- The visuals were awesome. I loved the new look of the ghosts.
- It had some great jump scares for the horror parts of the film.
- The 3D effects were unbelievable. It's Paul Feig's first 3D film, and he has produced some of the best 3D graphics I have ever seen.
- It did a fantastic job of feeling like the original Ghostbusters, while standing on its own as a new start to the franchise.
- The cameos from the original cast members were great.
- The gags and references to the original two movies were cool.
What I didn't like about it:
- Nothing.
Conclusion:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ghostbusters exceded every expectation I had for it. To be honest, I loved it more than the original. It had fantastic visuals, amazing jokes, a great, modern cast, and some of the most immersive 3D graphics I've ever seen. This movie demolishes all of the negativity thrown at it through its rocky marketing campaign. Mr. Feig, you deserve this medal for a job well done. Now, hurry up with Ghostbusters 2.
